Clinical Pilates
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is a variation of Traditional Pilates. It is ideal for people experiencing musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction, post-injury dysfunction, or for those seeking post-surgery rehabilitation. Pilates exercises are adapted to the appropriate level for you and your issue and progressed when possible and tolerated.
Clinical Pilates creates balance between muscle groups, strengthening weak muscles and lengthening tight muscles with the aim of promoting optimal functional muscle control through-out the body.
At the initial appointment you will undergo a musculoskeletal assessment with Julie our Chartered Physiotherapist which may take up to 30 minutes. Based on this assessment she will develop an individualised program to suit your condition and ability. This may involve the use of a combination of large equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac, Split pedal chair, Core align and barrel. The studio also has an array of smaller equipment which will be utilised as needed. Re-assessment at regular intervals helps to keep the focus of the sessions on track with the identified goals and any new issues that arise.
Clinical Pilates is continually shaped and advanced by current best practice guidelines.

What is a PD and MS class?
Our class is designed for people recently diagnosed with Parkinson's (PD) or Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or those with early/moderate-stage PD or MS.
Emerging evidence suggests that increasing exercise to 2.5 hours per week can slow the progression of Parkinson's symptoms. Regular, moderate exercise is now known to be an important part of maintaining good health and well-being for people with MS. There is evidence that it can help with many MS symptoms and with general quality of life.
Sessions are run by Virginie, an experienced/seasoned Pilates teacher who has special interest in those condition. Empathy, compassion and humour are at the heart of her teaching. Precise verbal and tactile cueing prevents misalignment.
